High school football was back in full swing across St. Johns County on Thursday, Sept. 18.
The Ponte Vedra Sharks redeemed themselves after losing to the Beachside Barracudas last week with a 48-6 victory over the Menendez Falcons.
The Sharks were first on the board with quarterback Cole Rosendahl scoring the opening touchdown. The Falcons answered back with 6 points of their own, but Ponte Vedra’s Talan Babin blocked the extra point, keeping the score at 7-6.
The Sharks scored again early in the second quarter when Alex Winkles found a hole and ran 63 yards for the touchdown. Ponte Vedra’s defense also had a strong performance on the night with three interceptions in the game. Rosendahl threw for 213 total yards and had two touchdowns. The Sharks are now 3-2 and will host Fleming Island at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26.
Beachside defeated the Bishop Kenny Crusaders 35-31 and earned their fourth straight win. The Barracudas are now 4-1 and will not see the field again until Oct. 3 when they face off against Tocoi Creek.
The Nease Panthers saw their undefeated season come to an end on Friday, Sept. 19, as they fell to the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets 28-24.
St. Augustine’s Brenton James threw for 293 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 77 yards. Nease is now 4-1 and will be on the road to take on Bucholz Friday, Sept. 26.
The Creekside Knights also played Friday, Sept. 19, and lost to the Winter Park Wildcats 45-29. Creekside’s Jaxon Earle rushed for 48 yards and three touchdowns. Landon Mendez also had a strong performance for the Knights with three field goals and two kicking extra points. Creekside is now 1-4 and will be on the road Friday, Sept. 26, against Sandalwood.
