St. Johns records first fatality related to COVID-19

There have been 22 known cases in the county

The Florida Department of Health said Tuesday the first person from St. Johns County has died for COVID-19. 

The 52-year-old male was first confirmed to have the virus on March 23. According to date from the Florida State Emergency Operations Center, the St. Johns County resident had come in contact with a confirmed case and recently traveled to Minnesota.

Countywide, there still are 21 other patients – 18 men and four women – diagnosed with the coronavirus. Of that group, five remain in the hospital and 12 are self-quarantined.

No further information, including the person’s age or sex, was released.

As of Tuesday morning, there are 1,412 known cases of the virus in Florida with 18 deaths.
