Stellers Gallery at Ponte Vedra Beach will this spring exhibit the work of nationally recognized painters Laura Lacambra Shubert, Page Jones Davis and Karin Olah, with an opening reception on Friday, April 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. The show is open to the public and will feature an existing and new body of work by each of the artists.
As a gallery favorite, Shubert has been with Stellers since 1995. According to the gallery, the artist’s individual use of color and light in both subtle and bold brush strokes evoke nostalgic and uplifting feelings by the viewer. Thick with paint in acrylic and oil, each art piece offers light and rich characters that transcend the content of the initial image. According to Stellers, viewers are drawn to feel strong emotions of joy and warmth while focusing on themes of beauty and happiness in a subtle, suggestive manner. The optimistic and romantic concepts portray scenes encountered in daily life.
The artwork of Davis includes canvas, paper and woodblock. Her mixed media art is inspired from the aesthetics of the modern market place found in places such as advertisements, apps, catalogs and stores. According to Stellers, she juxtaposes her subjects while focusing on the importance of human contact in a culture that is becoming more and more communicative, yet less connected.
The gallery said Davis’ work encourages the viewer to bring their experiences to an open-ended dialogue and an implied invitation to become a part of the story. The visual space is created to evoke emotions such as curiosity, intimacy, playfulness and chance.
Olah works in mixed media collage using textiles, gouache, acrylic, pastel and graphite on linen, canvas, wood panel and paper. She works from photographs taken in everyday life while on family walks, days at the beach and views from her favorite playgrounds along with the environment. According to Stellers, Olah has developed a unique brand of fiber art that combines printmaking, quilt-making, hand dyes, collage-work and painting, to name a few. Her refined process creates a various series inspired by shapes and colors.
A piece of art by each artist will be raffled as a fundraiser to benefit Art with a Heart in Healthcare programs and services. Art residents working with the nonprofit create individualized art sessions that meet the needs of patients, at their bedsides and in groups. The organization has served tens of thousands of patients and their families in Northeast Florida at Wolfson Children's Hospital, Nemours Children's Specialty Clinic, St. Vincent’s Medical Center and Mayo Clinic.
