Students earn degrees, named to academic lists for spring 2022

Several area students have been recognized for their academic success at their respective colleges and universities.

Flagler College

The following students graduated from Flagler College on May 9 at its spring commencement ceremony. In all, 546 undergraduate degrees were awarded during the ceremony, which was held in the St. Augustine Amphitheatre. The commencement speaker was elementary education major Samantha Jo Calascione.

University of Alabama Graduation

The University of Alabama awarded 5,907 degrees during its spring commencement ceremonies in May.

Graduations

  • Graham H. Van of Ponte Vedra received a degree from Clark University on May 22. Van graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in political science.
  • William Douglas Levinson of Ponte Vedra Beach graduated from the University of the South with a BA in economics. Parents are Jen and Randy Levinson of Jacksonville.
  • Isabel Rose Washko of Spartanburg, South Carolina, graduated from the University of the South with a BA in history. Parents are Mary D. and Charles J. Washko of St. Augustine.
  • Cynthia Dodson of St. Augustine has graduated from Troy University.
  • Sharon Pierce-Perrault of Jacksonville has graduated from Troy University.

  • Caroline Schwalbe of Ponte Vedra graduated May 22 from Wofford College with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Brooks Schwalbe of Ponte Vedra graduated May 22 from Wofford College with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Jamari Broussard of Jacksonville Beach graduated May 22 from Wofford College with a bachelor’s degree.

  • Abigail Summers of St. Augustine graduated with a Master of Science in Management from Ohio University's College of Business in spring 2022.
  • Devi Spletzer, a psychology major from Ponte Vedra, graduated in May 2022 from Coastal Carolina University.

Dean’s List

  • Jaimie Magura of St. Augustine has been named to the University of Delaware dean's list for the spring 2022 semester.
  • Becca Rios of St. Augustine has been named to Kennesaw State University's spring 2022 dean's list in recognition of academic achievement.
  • Cedarville University student Anna Carrico of Ponte Vedra, majoring in nursing, was named to the dean's honor list for spring 2022.
  • Cedarville University student Abigail King of St. Augustine, majoring in theatre, was named to the dean's list at Cedarville University for spring 2022.
  • Sadie Pichelmann of Ponte Vedra has been named to the dean's list at Luther College for the spring 2022 semester.
  • Blake Kurdziel of Ponte Vedra Beach, class of 2023, has been named to the College of the Holy Cross' dean's list for outstanding academic achievement during the 2022 spring semester.
  • Colleen Dolan of St. Augustine, class of 2022, has been named to the College of the Holy Cross' dean's list for outstanding academic achievement during the 2022 spring semester.
  • The following local students were named to The University of Alabama dean's list during spring semester 2022: Rendon Crowley, Frances Fant, Kathleen McQuiddy and Sarah Sunas of Ponte Vedra Beach; and Logan Conlon, Matthew Gentile, Rose Nygard, Grace Rathjen, Luke Selmont, Anastasia Taggart, Roman Leone, Abigail Hawkins, Elizabeth McCabe and Hannah White of St. Augustine.
  • Duvall Dickerson-Evans, an engineering science major from St. Augustine was named to the Coastal Carolina University dean's list for the spring 2022 semester.

President's List

  • Uju Uzoagu of St. Augustine, majoring in computer science, has been named to the Kennesaw State University spring 2022 president's list.
  • Devi Spletzer, a psychology major from Ponte Vedra, was named to the Coastal Carolina University president's list for the spring 2022 semester.

Director’s List

Daniel Ritchie of St. Augustine, who attends Florida Virtual School and has enrolled in UA Early College, and was named to The University of Alabama’s spring 2022 director's list

Awards

Belmont University Athletics recently celebrated the Bruin Choice Awards recognizing the top achievers in the areas of completion, academics and community service. Alex Whitehead of Ponte Vedra Beach was honored with the Men's Golf Academic Achievement Award.

Inducted

  • Devin Alvarez of St. Augustine, majoring in mechanical engineering, was inducted into the New York Institute of Technology's chapter of Phi Eta Sigma, the nation's oldest and largest honor society for first-year college and university students.
  • Nicholas Potvin of Jacksonville Beach was recently initiated into the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Potvin was initiated at University of Maryland, Baltimore Campuses.
