THE PLAYERS Championship is just around the corner and its volunteer leadership team was busy last week awarding grants as part of their annual tradition of “Red Coat Rideouts.”

The Red Coats paid in-person visits to The North Florida School of Special Education and Heart 4 Minds to surprise them with donations in addition to the more than 60 grants they awarded to local nonprofits in the five-county area this year.

Who's ready fur some treats? The Red Coats teamed up with the NFSSE’s Barkin’ Biscuit program to hold a dog biscuit making pawty. Barkin’ Biscuits is a dog treat baking operation that provides post-graduates with vocational training. The program is offered three days a week and attracts chefs ranging from 18 to 40 years of age. The Red Coats surprised them with a $15,000 grant to fund a pilot vocational training program for their younger students.

The Red Coats also paid a visit to San Marco Square to surprise Sheryl Johnson, founder of Hearts 4 Minds, with $15,000 to fund their with Murals with Meaning program. Through this program, murals are placed throughout Northeast Florida, each with a QR code that can be scanned to provide mental health resources. Hearts 4 Minds currently has 11 murals throughout the First Coast and the $15,000 grant from the Red Coats will enable the organization to design and implement three more.
