THE PLAYERS continues support of military with annual job fair

THE PLAYERS Championship continued its support of those who served the country with its annual job fair for military members, veterans and military spouses.

Numerous companies in search of employees were on hand at The Military Job Fair at THE PLAYERS presented by United Rentals, held Saturday, March 7, at the Birdies for the Brave Patriots Outpost at THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. The event also provided free career counseling and resume-writing assistance for service members and veterans.

The event is just one of many honoring the military during the week leading up to THE PLAYERS. Chris Cox, director of sports and entertainment for United Rentals, says the job fair usually draws around 200-3,000 people looking for job opportunities or employment assistance.

“For this, it brings in a bigger audience for us,” Cox said of tying the military job fair in with THE PLAYERS week. “It’s a very targeted market in Jacksonville here; one of the biggest military markets there is for us on tour. And just nationally, it’s an obvious spot to shine a light on it.”

United Rentals, the largest equipment rental company in the world and a PGA TOUR marketing partner, is one of the top-20 military employers in the United States, and Cox said that’s one of the reasons the military job fair is so valuable.

“This is at the heart of our market,” he said. “Some of our best employees have come directly out of the military.”

Cox said the benefit is mutual for military members and veterans looking for work and companies like his looking for employees.

“We have many programs surrounding the military and to be able to do something, to not only give back a little bit, but it gives us something back a little bit as well by picking up some new employees and some great folks to work with,” he said.
