Third quarter costs Panthers in shootout loss to Creekside

Posted

The Nease Panthers lost a shootout 62-41 on the road against the county rival Creekside Knights  Sept. 2.

It was a back-and-forth game throughout with both teams proving evenly matched and up to the challenge.

However, the third quarter proved the difference in the contest, as the Knights outscored the Panthers 21-0 during that quarter and turned a close 27-26 halftime lead into a comfortable  48-26 lead heading into the final quarter.

The game appeared destined to be a shootout after the teams combined for  53 points in the first half alone.

The offense Nease and head coach  Collin Drafts prefers to play  is suited to rack up points and usually  favors the Panthers.

But the 62 points scored by the Knights proved too much for the Panthers to keep pace with, and getting shutout in the third quarter was too much to come back from in the end.

Next up for the Panthers is a home game against Fleming Island at 7 p.m. Sept. 9.
