It was a night of festive fun as local residents gathered for the tree lighting ceremony Friday, Nov. 27, at TPC Sawgrass.
Diners gathered early as the sun sank into the horizon to enjoy dinner on the veranda. Nearby, the elevated lawn slowly filled with revelers.
Carolers sang holiday favorites, and friendly staff poured cups of hot cocoa and set out special cookies.
As darkness descended on the clubhouse, children played games and adults chattered in lively conversation, all awaiting the big moment.
At last, the emcee welcomed the crowd to the event, urged them to observe social distancing and then led the visitors in a countdown to the 6:30 p.m. throwing of the switch.
Suddenly, the large tree at the center of all the activity burst into brilliant light and a cheer rose up.
The holidays had official come to TPC Sawgrass.
