Upcoming COA events at River House in St. Augustine

St. Johns County Council on Aging (COA) will host the following events in May and June at River House in St. Augustine, located at 179 Marine St. 

Grief Support Group

Tuesday, May 21 from 10:30 a.m. to noon

If you are grieving the loss of a loved one, COA welcomes you to join this complimentary monthly bereavement group where you can share thoughts, memories and process the issues of grieving.  For more information, call (904) 209-3655.

French Level 1 Language

Wednesdays, May 8, 15, 22 and 29 and June 12 and 19, from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m.

Cost: $30 for River House members and $35 for non-members

Discover France and the French Language with this interactive six-week course, which will help you learn basic French language skills and understand French culture through role-playing, storytelling and situational, real-life learning environment.  To register, call (904) 209-3655.

French Beginners Conversational French Language

Wednesdays, May 8, 15, 22 and 29 and June 12, 19, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Cost: $40 for River House members and $50 for non-members. 

You must have taken French Level 1 to enroll in this class. To register, call (904) 209-3655.

Art Techniques Classes

Thursdays beginning May 30, from 10 a.m. to noon or 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost per session: $7 for River House members and $10 for non-members.  

Two classes will be offered for artists of all levels to improve their techniques in the media of their choice (watercolor, pastels, colored pencil, mixed media, etc.). Attendees should bring in their current projects so that instructor Jaime Bernstein may guide them through the tips and tricks of various art forms. Space is limited. Reservations are required. Senior Singles Group

Join local seniors for food and fun conversation the first Tuesday of each month at various restaurants. Call Victoria Balsamo at (419) 651-0411 for reservations.

Music Simplified  

Monday, June 10, from 9 a.m. to noon

Cost: $45 for River House members and $55 for non-members                        

Learn how to play guitar, ukulele, banjo or dulcimer. Learn to tune and chord any of these instruments in one easy lesson. No previous playing experience is necessary. Bring your own instrument, borrow one from a friend or use one of COA’s. All materials are provided.  To register, call (904) 209-3655.

River House Book Club

Tuesday, June 11 from 3 to 4 p.m.

This group is complimentary and made possible by the St. Johns County public library book mobile. “Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens will be discussed.
