Week 10 Football Preview

Ponte Vedra, Nease set to wrap up district slate

Posted

After a week off both Ponte Vedra and Nease return to the gridiron this Friday with district contests against Fletcher and Fleming Island, respectively.

It will be the final district games of the regular season.

The biggest question heading into the week is how will both teams look coming out of the bye week?

The Sharks (3-5, 1-3) host the Senators on senior night and are looking to get their second district win of the season.

According to senior Luke Pirris, the focus for the Sharks is all about winning their final two games of the regular season and finishing 5-5, which will give them the best shot at still making the playoffs if things fall their way.

However, for them to keep their postseason hopes alive, they must finish the season strong, and it starts at home this week against the Senators, who are undefeated in district play at 4-0 and 5-3 overall.

The Sharks have had their share of injuries this season and the bye week allowed several players the opportunity to heal up from the bumps and bruises they’ve amassed during the first eight games.

In the eyes of Nease, the bye week was all about finding their form, especially offensively, that they had during their four-game winning streak.

The playmakers are still there, but the execution has just been lacking in recent weeks.

All eyes will be on the Panthers when they touch the ball for the first time on the road against Fleming Island on Friday night.

If the offense once again taps into their potential, the sky is the limit for the Panthers come the postseason.

This week will be big for the Panthers in setting the tone and reestablishing their identity for the weeks ahead.

After a sluggish start to the season, the Golden Eagles have righted the ship and will enter the contest on a four-game winning streak.

The offense has begun to come along during that time, and they are on pace offensively with Nease in district play with 96 points in four games.

The Sharks play at 7 p.m. while the Panthers kick off at 7:30 p.m.
