IKEA plans Halloween scavenger “haunt,” treat bag giveaway

IKEA Jacksonville will host a Frightfully Fun Scavenger Haunt on Oct. 29-31 to offer parents a break by providing a safe, family-friendly space to celebrate Halloween.

On Halloween weekend, parents and children are invited to explore the 290,000-square-foot Jacksonville store, guided by a map to mark the way. Seven stuffed creatures are lurking in nooks and crannies and around unexpected corners throughout the IKEA showroom. Find all seven, mark them on the map, then turn the map in at the store’s Bistro for a treat.

The Frightfully Fun Scavenger Haunt will be held during regular store hours: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. (Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.)

On Oct. 31, families can get a jump start on their trick-or-treating plans with a visit to IKEA Jacksonville. Simply stop by the store for a spell between noon and 4 p.m. for IKEA’s Frightfully Fun Halloween Treat Bag Giveaway. Costumes are encouraged. One treat bag per child age 16 or younger while supplies last. No purchase necessary.

To register for each event, go to IKEA-USA.com/Jacksonville and select the “Local in-store events & activities” page.

IKEA Jacksonville is located at 7801 Gate Parkway, Jacksonville.

Cummer Museum features work by Cheyenne artists

The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens presents “Imprisoned but Empowered: Cheyenne Warrior Artists at Fort Marion,” an exhibition on view through Feb. 27.

It features works by three Cheyenne artists who were taken from their homes by the United States government in 1875 and imprisoned at Fort Marion (also known as the Castillo de San Marcos) in St. Augustine for three years. Their jailor, Richard Pratt, was inspired to experiment with assimilating the Plains warriors into quasi-soldiers. The missionary ladies of St. Augustine, including Harriett Beecher Stowe, convinced Pratt to allow them to create an ad hoc school in the fort, laying the foundation for Carlisle and Indian boarding schools.
