Athlete of the Week: Davis Lee

This week’s Athlete of the Week is Davis Lee, a Ponte Vedra High School senior who has committed to playing golf at the University of North Florida (UNF). Earlier this year, Lee medaled in the U.S. Amateur qualifier after shooting his second 67 in a row and finishing with a 10-under-par 134. More recently, Lee finished with a score of 154 among boys ages 16 to 18 at the Timacuan Golf & Country Club course.

Athlete of the Week: Savio Palushi

This week's Athlete of the Week highlights Nease soccer player Savio Palushi Jr., a center midfielder on the boys team that has started 6-0 with wins over Bishop Kenny, St. Johns Country Day, Middleburg, Bolles, Bartram Trail and Episcopal.

Why I Serve: Adam Bagby

In this edition of Why I Serve, featuring Wounded Warrior Project, the Recorder sat down with Iraq War veteran Adam Bagby, who discussed his time serving in the U.S. Army as a military police officer, why he chose to enlist in the army and more. Bagby, who now teaches world history at St. Augustine High School, served from 2001 to 2009. His first day of Advanced Individual Training was on the morning of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

Why I Serve: Dan Nevins

In this edition of Why I Serve, featuring Wounded Warrior Project, Dan Nevins, a retired staff sergeant from the United States Army, sat down with the Recorder. Nevins enlisted in 1991 before retiring in 2006. He was deployed in Operation Iraqi Freedom while serving in the California National Guard.

Athlete of the Week: Ashley Burke

The Ponte Vedra Recorder met this week with Ashley Burke, the co-captain of the Ponte Vedra girls golf team, to discuss her performance at regionals, where she finished with a personal best 77. The interview also covered her team’s recent performances, her role as co-captain and more.

One of Us: Nancy Morrison

Nancy Morrison is a co-chair of the 12th annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic in Ponte Vedra Beach, which is taking place Thursday, Oct. 4 at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club. The Classic and ensuing events support Mayo Clinic-Jacksonville and Baptist Medical Center Beaches in their mission to research and treat breast cancer. Morrison is chairing the events with Joanne Ghiloni. The two women have been co-chairs for the last two years.

Athlete of the Week: Lauren Bing

In this edition of Athlete of the Week, the Recorder featured Ponte Vedra High School cross country runner Lauren Bing, who finished in second place at a meet last week. Bing revealed how much she practices, what she finds to be the hardest aspect of the sport, how she remains hydrated in the humid Florida weather and more.

A South Ponte Vedra Beach resident, Diane Scherff is the second vice chair of the St. Johns County Republican Party, president of the newly-formed Trump Club of St. Johns County and was the chairman of the Trump Campaign for St. Johns County.
