United Way of St. Johns County has announced that $37,503 in federal funds has been awarded to St. Johns County through Phase 41 of the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program.
A local board made up of county, city and human services agencies along with United Way of St. Johns County will determine how funds are to be distributed among emergency food and shelter programs in the local service area. The board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive funds in this cycle as well as future cycles.
Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local organizations, whether nonprofit or government, may apply. To receive funds, the organization must conduct an annual audit, practice non-discrimination and have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and shelter programs. Examples of how program funds can be used include the following: food (served meals or groceries), lodging in a mass shelter or hotel, one month's rent or mortgage payment, one month's utility bill and/or equipment necessary to feed or shelter people.
