A letter to our fans

Posted

In March, the decision to cancel THE PLAYERS Championship due to the onset of COVID-19 set in motion an unprecedented time in our sport. And while the challenges of the pandemic have touched every aspect of our lives over the past nine months, we are proud of the way the PGA TOUR has continued to rally and positively impact the communities in which we play — none more so than right here in Northeast Florida. For more than 40 years, we have asked for your support of THE PLAYERS, and your efforts have allowed us to create a charitable impact throughout our community that extends well beyond tournament week. Thank you.

As we look towards March 2021 — and given the continued uncertainty around COVID-19 — it is no surprise that the landscape at THE PLAYERS Championship will be different than what our dedicated fans are accustomed to. If you’ve been to TPC Sawgrass lately, you’ve seen that we are slowly beginning the process of building a reduced number of onsite venues, as those structures take months to construct in preparation for tournament week.

At this time, we are planning to host a limited number of ticketed spectators and guests at THE PLAYERS 2021, continuing to offer a one-of-a-kind fan experience while enriching the Northeast Florida area through charitable giving and economic impact. As we plan to launch ticket sales in the near future, we are still determining exactly how many ticketed spectators we can accommodate. Please know that we will not make these decisions lightly; they will be made with the health and safety of our community in mind.

While some of our fans may not be able to attend in person, due to safety protocols, we ask you to continue to engage with THE PLAYERS via social media, PGA TOUR LIVE and of course, on NBC and GOLF Channel as you witness the game’s best players take on the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. We are also exploring innovative ways to bring this event to our fans locally and around the world, and we are excited to unveil some of those opportunities in the weeks to come.

So, while our footprint will be reduced, with your support, our impact to our region can be immense. In our own unique ways, we all have an opportunity to help make THE PLAYERS – Our Gold Standard – an unqualified success next March. This is your event, in your hometown. Together, we will deliver a championship all of us can take tremendous pride in.

I thank each of you in advance for your patience and understanding. Please be on the lookout for future announcements regarding THE PLAYERS 2021, and thank you for your continued support.
