Beloved Mediterranean-inspired restaurant Purple Olive has some exciting news. They are moving to a new location located on Anastasia Boulevard at the former Gypsy Cab Company building after 21 years of serving St. Augustine. On Tuesday, Sept. 24, they held a VIP preview event to celebrate this new era of Purple Olive.
The night began with an open bar featuring refreshing classic cocktails, including daiquiris and sea breezes. Guests mingled while admiring the inviting atmosphere that feels like a fun twist on old Florida with a touch of whimsy. The decor incorporates polished wood accents reminiscent of well-oiled ships, mermaid motifs, pearly lights and intricate palm tree wallpaper.
As they continued their conversations, guests were served delicious small bites, which included black bean burger sliders, shredded chicken and tofu tacos, house salads in a cup and mini brie tarts. The mango shrimp was a particular hit.
As the night wound down, guests explored the nearly renovated restaurant past the bar, which so far contains lovely wood accents and walls painted a serene seafoam-green that is cohesive with the theme.
Chef and owner Peter Kenney and the Purple Olive staff outdid themselves in creating a lovely dining experience for guests and welcoming in a new era of Purple Olive, which is set to open this fall. Locals and visitors alike have a lot to look forward to.
