AARP seeks tax prep volunteers

Posted

AARP Tax-Aide is seeking volunteers to help elderly and needy Jacksonville-area taxpayers prepare and file their tax returns.

Last year, 160 Jacksonville and Beaches-area volunteers helped prepare more than 6,500 tax returns. They were part of more than 35,000 AARP Tax-Aide volunteers across the country to assist the free tax preparation service.

Volunteers do not need to be experienced tax return preparers, AARP members or retirees. Comprehensive training will be provided to all volunteers ahead of the tax season, which runs from Feb. 1 to April 15.

This year, Tax-Aide said, there is an especially urgent need for people to help with software installation and network set-up in Tax-Aide work sites. In addition to people who are experienced computer users, the Tax-Aide team also seeks volunteers to greet and screen taxpayer clients.
