For 32 years, Angelwood has been a critical resource for children, adults, seniors and families living with intellectual and developmental differences in the Northeast Florida. This includes individuals with autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and spina bifida.
The nonprofit provides support to more than 200 people and their families through residential group homes, respite services, summer day camp, holiday kids camps, an adult day training program, supported employment and behavior services.
The Angelwood story began with Sally Fox, a Jacksonville news anchor and single mother raising two daughters with developmental differences. She recognized the need for an environment where individuals like her daughters could truly belong and thrive.
In 1993, she made a leap of faith and founded Angelwood on the belief that every child deserves a safe, loving home and the opportunity to reach his or her potential. Today, Angelwood continues to ensure that the individuals it serves receive the needed support to grow, succeed and be valued members of their community.
But continuing this mission requires support by the community. In return for their donations and volunteer hours, supporters have a chance to provide hope, dignity and encouragement to neighbors who count on them.
“Your support is a gentle hand on the shoulder of a parent who thought they were alone, a spark of encouragement for a young adult taking their first steps toward independence and a promise kept for families who only want the best for their loved ones,” said Angelwood Development Director Ann Marie Beaty.
Supporters remind the world through their actions that everyone needs a place where they truly belong.
“By supporting Angelwood, you become part of a legacy of love – a legacy that began with Sally’s vision and is carried forward by every smile, every achievement and every moment of connection within its walls,” said Beaty. “Together, we help write stories of resilience and hope, ensuring that no one is left behind and that every person can reach for the stars.”
Angelwood’s annual fundraiser, the Soaring Possibilities Celebration, will be held Aug. 16 at Sawgrass Marriott in Ponte Vedra Beach. The theme is “Reach for the Stars.”
Guests will step onto the red carpet and into the ballroom where elegant décor and a lively atmosphere set the stage for an evening of hope, generosity and connection. The event includes a cocktail reception, a gourmet dinner and live entertainment.
