The Professional Artists of St. Augustine (PAStA) Fine Art Gallery, of 214 Charlotte St., St. Augustine, has announced that member artist Jenny Keyser was chosen to participate in the St. John’s County Cultural Council’s salute to the textile arts, “Threading the Margins.”
The event will continue until Nov. 30 in the rotunda of the St. John’s County Administration Building, 500 San Sebastion View, St. Augustine.
Keyser is an award-winning, multi-disciplinary artist whose work has been shown internationally in galleries and museums. Her work in accessories and wearable art has been sold nationally at Barney’s of New York and was included in publications such as Lark Books’ “1,000 Beads,” InStyle Magazine and Women’s Wear Daily.
She received a B.S. in biology from Vanderbilt University, a certificate in museum studies from Northwestern University and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has been a member since May 2022 of the PAStA Fine Art Gallery, where her acrylic paintings and custom-made jewelry are featured.
Keyser was one of 17 local artists chosen to participate in the “Threading the Margins” exhibit, following an open call for artists. The exhibit includes unique works by the artists, plus antique garments and samplers from the Peῆa-Peck house and Ximenez-Fatio house museum collections.
The piece Keyser is exhibiting is a hand-pieced, size 6 dress constructed of nylon netting that has been hand-painted with industrial rubber and includes crocheted wire details.
“Storytelling is an art itself,” Keyser said. “If you look and listen, my art tells a story. It reflects my philosophy and passions, places I have been and things I have seen.”
Here is the narrative description of her “Survivor Dress”:
“She wore her resilience on her body like some kind of badge of honor. Instead of crumbling under the weight of her experiences, she transformed them into something beautiful that emanated from within. She is a survivor.”
