Author’s topic: How to edit a novel

Posted

Writing a novel is only the first step; editing ensures that it’s the best possible novel. Award-winning crime writer Joni M. Fisher will share the best editing practices in her workshop, “Editing Down to the Bones” at the Ponte Vedra Writers meeting, 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library. Fisher will have a detailed handout tracking the editing process from first draft to finished product. Telling writers, “Don’t bother editing until you complete the first draft,” Fisher will cover structure, setting, scene and sequel, dialogue and more. Fisher writes suspenseful crime stories about heroines who don’t wait to be rescued. After working decades in journalism, she turned to writing about crime. Her Compass Crimes series has won awards from the Next Generation Indie Book Awards, The Christian Indie Book Awards, Reader’s Favorite Book Awards, Kindle Book Awards and the Royal Palm Literary Awards. A member of the American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) and a lifetime member of the Florida Writers Association (FWA), she also served on the Arts and Humanities Advisory Board for Southeastern University. As an instrument-rated private pilot, she reports for General Aviation News. Her fingerprints are on file with the FBI. The Ponte Vedra Writers group is part of the Florida Writers Association, a statewide, membership organization dedicated to the support of both aspiring and published writers in any genre. The July 20 meeting is free and open to members and nonmembers alike.
