New York Times bestselling author Chris Bohjalian will be at The BookMark Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. to discuss and sign copies of his newest release, “The Sleepwalker.”

The novel follows the Ahlberg family after wife and mother Annalee Ahlberg leaves her house and heads toward a river, never to be seen again. With her history of sleepwalking, the family and community react to her disappearance with confusion; is she still wandering somewhere in a fugue state? Was she murdered or possibly kidnapped? Could she have drowned in the Gale River?

Detective Gavin Rikert pursues the case with less-than-objective interest because of his own relationship with Annalee, with whom he bonded while being treated at the same sleep disorder clinic. Annalee’s eldest daughter Lianna, meanwhile, tries to comfort her father and younger sister, putting her life as a college student on hold to conduct her own investigation which brings her closer in contact with Rikert. In the novel, Bohjalian raises questions of identity, heredity, sexuality and desire that bring the family’s conundrum into focus with a shocking ending.

Bohjalian is the critically acclaimed author of 18 books. His novel “Midwives” was a number one New York Times bestseller and a selection of Oprah’s Book Club. His work has been translated into more than 25 languages, and three of his novels have become movies (“Secrets of Eden,” “Midwives” and “Past the Bleachers”). He lives in Vermont with his wife and daughter.

The BookMark is located at 220 First St.in Neptune Beach.
