The Y Healthy Living Center Ponte Vedra will offer a free presentation on how to maintain brain health through a cancer diagnosis as part of its ongoing “Talk with a Doc” series. The presentation is open to all members of the community.

To be held from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday April 12 at the Ponte Vedra YMCA located at 170 Landrum Lane, the session will be presented by Dr. Robert Cavaliere, a neuro oncologist at Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center in Jacksonville. In addition to covering the anatomy of the brain, Cavaliere will review its key functions and the impact a cancer diagnosis may have on brain health.

A specialist in the management of patients with brain and spine cancer, Cavaliere has written and participated in numerous clinical trials – experiences that have fueled his commitment to improve patients’ quality of life as well as care for cancer survivors.

“The field of brain and spine oncology is changing rapidly as we learn more about the disease, leading to new, state-of-the-art therapies and diagnostic tools that were inconceivable when I started to practice medicine,” Dr. Cavaliere wrote in his physician’s profile. “Though it is easy to focus on technology, I strongly believe that in order to most effectively care for a person, you must be aware of all facets of the patient experience.”

Seating for the presentation is limited; to register online, visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/talk-with-a-doc-tickets-22125067673?aff=es2.

A partnership between Baptist Health and First Coast YMCA, Y Healthy Living Centers bring Baptist health and wellness programs out into the community. The monthly sessions feature a wide range of clinicians – including primary care physicians, specialist, and nutrition and wellness experts – who discuss everything from the latest medical treatments to ways of reducing stress. According to Baptist Health, the Ponte Vedra and Mandarin Healthy Living Centers are the first of their kind on the First Coast, with additional centers planned for the future.
