Beaches Episcopal School faculty member and IDEAStudio Educator Betsy Bailey was awarded a DeWitt E. and Vera M. Hooker Fellowship Grant from the Florida Council on Independent Schools (FCIS).

Bailey received the grant for her “Florida Sands Project,” which will focus on collecting coastal, lake, river and stream sand specimens found across the state. The project will integrate science, social studies, technology, reading, engineering, art, and math. BES fourth grade students will also communicate and collaborate with other Florida students by written and electronic correspondence. Bailey will then present her project at the FCIS Convention in Miami in November 2016.

In addition to Bailey’s project, grants were also awarded to St. Andrew’s School for “Reducing Your Eco Footprint” and Shorecrest Preparatory School for “Coastal Awareness with ROVs.”
