High school football’s regular season came to a close last week with some teams clinching a playoff spot.

The Ponte Vedra Sharks defeated the Creekside Knights 17-7 on Oct. 30. Davitt Doherty was the story of the night for the Sharks with 117 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Ponte Vedra’s offense was not at the top of their game and an injury to quarterback Cole Rosendahl in the third quarter did not help. Backup quarterback Sam Cote entered the game after Rosendahl’s injury and led the Sharks to the victory. Cote completed four of his five passes for a total of 87 yards. One of his favorite targets was Jack Berquist who had three catches and 41 yards on the night.

Ponte Vedra’s record is now 8-2 and next up for the Sharks will be the FHSAA playoffs.

The Nease Panthers defeated the Beachside Barracudas 47-17 on Oct. 30. Panthers quarterback Aiden Phifer threw for 134 yards and three touchdowns. Brayden Felder was Phifer’s top target, and he picked up 99 total yards.

The Panthers defense was able to limit the Barracudas to 2.6 yards per carry, and they were led by Gunnar Reston who had 11 tackles on the night. The Panthers record is now 8-2.

Beachside defeated the Fleming Island Golden Eagles 31-10 on Nov. 4. The Barracudas are now 5A District 3 champions for the first time in school history.
