Bolles School Ponte Vedra Beach speech competition teaches public speaking skills

Posted

Fifth grade students on the Bolles Lower School Ponte Vedra Beach Campus participated in a speech competition recently that gave them an opportunity to practice public speaking skills in front of their peers as well as a panel of judges.

The students researched and prepared material for their speeches and practiced them for several weeks. Then, on Feb. 26, each student took a turn approaching the lectern in George Hall with their rehearsed presentations. Judges considered many factors when assessing the speeches, including volume, speed, speech construction and audience engagement.

All of the students spoke about topics that were of interest to them personally, and after deliberating, the judges selected the following students to congratulate for their presentations:

  • J.C. Lundgren for “The Greatness of America”
  • Oliver Reich for “Tunnel Flying”
  • Grace Miller for “Dwarf Wheat”
