Boy Scout Troop 288 honored retiring Scout Master Dick Basye during the troop’s “Court of Honor” quarterly meeting in August.
The troop members shared fond stories about Basye, who Eagle Scout Joe Sacri credited with leading 40 young men to Eagle Scout status and from whom Sacri learned “countless vital skills I will use the rest of my life.”
Eagle Scout Victor Manly said Basye is “one of the most influential people in my life.”
Tim Jones will take over the role of Scout Master.
Also during the gathering, troop members celebrated their week-long camp at Camp Bob Hardin in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina, received awards and were assigned new Positions of Responsibility (P.O.R.). In all, 96 merit badges, more than 13 rank advancements and 32 special awards were handed out, including the highest rank of Eagle Scout to Chris Gilber.
