Carolyn (CJ) Virginia Shaw went home to the Lord on January 23, 2024. She was surrounded by love and amazing grace.
To know CJ was to love CJ. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She never knew a stranger and never left anyone without a smile. If you were extra lucky you would get a little squeeze.
She was born on January 18, 1937, in Gallipolis, Ohio where she was raised. She later married and raised her children, Jenifer Jerles (Brant Turner) and Jamie Jerles in Worthington, Ohio. Go Buckeyes! Throughout her life she dedicated much of her time and devotion to Worthington United Methodist Church, lots of travel, laughter, and adventures with her sisters (Kathy Riblet and Liz Arnold) and eventually made her way to South Carolina and Florida to be closer to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
CJ was a woman of God and His love and tenderness was poured into anyone she met. She was a proud and doting mother. Jenifer and Jamie brought her more love, laughter (and a few gray hairs) to last a lifetime. She loved her grandchildren and would brag on them any chance she got! She was the ultimate hostess…her home and arms were open to everyone. She would never dare be seen without her signature lipstick and if you caught her eye, you may have been lucky enough to get a wink, too. But don’t let that smile fool you, she could turn it right around in a game of cards.
While our hearts may ache, we are comforted to know hers is whole again.
CJ was survived by her children, sisters, grandchildren Stefanie Harrison (Drew), Heather Thibideau (Sean Taylor), Katelyn Cunningham (Dalton), Jake Jerles (Amber) and Nick Jerles and great-grandchildren Cora and Jones Harrison, Violet, Sunny and Dean Cunningham and Elliott Jerles arriving in the spring of this year.
She was preceded in death by her parents August and Elisabeth Arnold and brother Louis Arnold.
Her immediate family will celebrate her life and honor her memory in a private service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to BEAM (Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry). Please visit her online Tribute at www.quinn-shalz.com.
