Community Hospice plans Tree of Life, candlelight service

Posted

Community Hospice & Palliative Care’s 31st annual Tree of Life and Candlelight Services of Remembrance will be held from 5:45 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, and Tuesday, Dec. 7, to honor the memory of loved ones.

The event is an inspiring program of music, verse and reflection. Participants are invited to bring a photo of their loved ones to display on the memory table.

The Hadlow Campus will be illuminated with lights representing each patient served by Community Hospice since 1979. The Chapman Campus will also be adorned with lights, and both campuses will have evergreen trees decorated in white ribbons personalized with the names of loved ones.

“This year will be my 17th year attending the Tree of Life,” said Melissa Schoolcraft. “I started going to honor my father and now have made it a family tradition as my mother now attends to honor her father. I gain so much at this service as it helps me deal with my grief, reflect on fond memories, and makes me feel good knowing I’m honoring my loved ones.”

Community Hospice invites area residents to remember their loved ones at the celebration.

The services are:

  • 2 at the Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville
  • 7 at the Stephen R. Chapman Family Community Campus, 1355 U.S. 1 South, St. Augustine

A prelude performance will be held from 5:45 to 6 p.m., followed by the Service of Remembrance.

In addition to attending one of the ceremonies, people can purchase one of the gifts available to commemorate someone dear to them as part of this special evening and to help support quality, compassionate care for the patients and families who are helped each day.
