Dr. Laura Jankiprasad, known affectionately as Dr. J, joined Ponte Vedra Eye Associates two years ago and has been making a difference in the lives of patients in the area ever since.
She worked hard and graduated from Nova Southeastern College of Optometry with both a Bachelor of Science degree in vision science and a Doctor of Optometry. She also earned the prestigious Excellence in Contact Lens Patient Care Award presented by Johnson and Johnson.
Jankiprasad said that she finds helping her patients to see better to be incredibly rewarding. She enjoys seeing their progress and how better vision improves their lives. She shared some of her best tips for overall eye health and protection.
Jankiprasad first suggested coming in for a routine eye exam once a year even if you don’t wear glasses or have any vision problems.
“The eyes can tell us a lot about the body,” she said. Getting an exam can help the doctors to catch underlying problems such as diabetes.
Making sure to wear proper UV protection polarized sunglasses is also really important. Staying hydrated helps with overall eye health, as well.
She suggested following the 20-20-20 rule as most people spend a lot of their day on screens.
“Every 20 minutes, for 20 seconds, look 20 feet away from your screen,” she said.
Blue light glasses are also a good investment, Jankiprasad said. Blue light can lead to eye strain and even disrupts your circadian rhythm, which affects sleep quality and overall wellness.
Jankiprasad said that Ponte Vedra Eye Associates is very community centered. Their goal is to help patients ensure the health and clarity of their vision. She said that if a patient is having an eye emergency, they will do everything they can to get them in the office that same day. Patients are their priority and the practice has a very caring team, which also includes Dr. Ellen Rogers Wagner, who has been with the practice since 1993, and Dr. Gil Houston, who has been with the practice after relocating to Ponte Vedra in 1993.
