The LEGO community in Jacksonville received an upgrade earlier this fall when Bricks & Minifigs officially opened in Jacksonville Beach. The franchise, which is owned and operated by Roddy Wagner and his son Jackson, is the first of its kind in Northeast Florida offering new, used, vintage, and retired LEGO pieces and sets.
Bricks & Minifigs specializes in all things LEGO. Customers can sell their new or gently used LEGO sets, minifigures, and loose bricks with peace of mind and without the uncertainty that comes with reselling items on various online marketplaces.
There are also advantages of purchasing pieces directly from the Bricks & Minifigs storefront as opposed to online. Customers can physically inspect the LEGO sets and pieces, confident that they are dealing with a legitimate business, not a personal reseller.
“It’s been awesome to meet our new regulars and see what it’s like being a part of the community from a small business perspective,” said Jackson Wagner, a first-time business owner working alongside his father at the Jacksonville Beach storefront.
So far, Wagner says that running the business in Jacksonville Beach has been a welcoming experience, with customers both stumbling across the store by surprise and traveling from as far as Panama City to shop their collection of new and used LEGO items.
Although Bricks & Minifigs sells LEGO, it differs from a typical LEGO store because the larger LEGO stores only offer current items. The big stores discontinue sets more quickly, making it harder for enthusiasts to get their hands on high-demand sets. A customer can’t walk into an official LEGO store and purchase a late 1990s Star Wars set in mint condition, but they can at Bricks & Minifigs.
Once a set is retired from the LEGO store, it can be an expensive and time-consuming investment to find it for a reasonable price. Bricks & Minifigs prides itself on finding vintage and retired collections in decent condition to resell for a fair market price.
“It’s nice to know that our customers are happy with how we’ve been running our business,” Wagner said. “Everyone’s been great so far.”
Bricks & Minifigs offers more than just buying, selling, and trading LEGO items; they also provide birthday party reservations, making it a perfect spot for celebrations. Their 1.5-hour party packages include time for children to get creative with loose LEGO pieces, race LEGO cars around a track, and enjoy some birthday cake. At the end of the party, every child has the chance to create their own minifigure to take home.
In the future, the Wagners are looking forward to opening an online version of their storefront, possibly expanding to a second location, and becoming an integral part of the LEGO community in Jacksonville.
