FEMA, county to host open house on proposed flood map updates

St. Johns County will join with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to host a community open house regarding proposed floodplain map updates from 10 a.m. to noon and 4 to 7 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Community Center and Exhibition Hall, 2508 South Beach Parkway in Jacksonville Beach.

Community officials, FEMA representatives and insurance professionals will be available to answer questions regarding the proposed updates as well as the flood zone appeal process.

Released in May 2016, the proposed updates are based on the results of a recent floodplain study. As a result, portions of the county may have new flood zone designations, which can impact homeowner flood insurance policies and rates.
