Florida Blue will be the presenting sponsor of the 2017 “Women with Heart” luncheon to benefit Volunteers in Medicine.

The event will be held Feb. 8 at the Florida Blue conference center on its Deerwood Campus in Jacksonville. The luncheon will honor 11 Northeast Florida women who support Volunteers in Medicine’s mission to provide medical care to low-income, working individuals and families. Honorees will include Aimee Boggs, Dr. Annie Egan, Rep. Mia Jones, Paula Liang, Rev. Kate Moorehead, Helen Morse, Dr. Kathryn Pearson Peyton, Nicole Thomas, Susan Towler, Lisa Weatherby and Tracy Williams.

In addition, noted philanthropist Delores Barr Weaver will receive the “Dorion-Burt Heart of Gold Award” in recognition of her support for the nonprofit organization’s mission.

“Florida Blue is proud of its longstanding partnership with Volunteers in Medicine,” Florida Blue Market President Darnell Smith said. “We applaud the efforts of these amazing ladies to champion access to healthcare for North Florida’s most vulnerable population. We are confident that this year-long initiative will significantly impact patients who utilize the services and programs offered by Volunteers in Medicine’s free downtown clinic.”

Volunteers in Medicine CEO Mary Pat Corrigan noted that Florida Blue was one of Volunteers in Medicine’s founding partners, providing funding for the free clinic’s pharmacy when it opened in 2013.

“(Florida Blue) embodies the belief that everyone should have access to quality medical care,” Corrigan said. “We are thrilled to have Florida Blue’s leadership and guidance on our board of directors and to have it take a lead role in the launch of our inaugural 2017 Women with Heart event.”
