Posted

Runners and walkers are invited to participate in the 7th annual 5K Run for Peace which begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 11 at the St. Augustine Pier, located at 350 A1A Beach Blvd.

The family-friendly event will benefit the Betty Griffin Center, a nonprofit agency that provides free emergency shelter and other support services for residents experiencing domestic or sexual abuse in St. Johns County.

“Nearly 600 people took part in the event last year, and we’re hoping that even more runners and walkers will take part in the 5K this year,” said Betty Griffin Center CEO Joyce Mahr.  “For the last six years, the run has been one of our biggest fundraisers of the year, offering residents a family-friendly and fun way to support our work to help survivors of domestic and sexual assault in our community.”

To register, visit www.runforpeace5k.org.\

Runners can sign up for the event at http://runforpeace5k.org/, or through the events section at www.bettygriffincenter.org.  Adult registration costs $25 through Feb. 29 – increasing to $30 after that date.

People can also participate as virtual runners, and those who can’t participate but would still like to donate to the Betty Griffin Center can do so through the website.

Sponsorships are still available by contacting Betty Griffin Center Director of Development Glenn Newton at glennn@bettygriffincenter.org or by calling (904) 808-8544, ext. 208.
