Gala celebrates innovation, impact of area eye surgeon

The 2025 Gulani Vision Global Foundation Gala brought together local leaders, physicians, innovators and international guests for an evening that showcased Jacksonville’s ascent as a world leader in vision innovation, medical tourism and philanthropic impact.

The event highlighted the work of the Gulani Vision Global Foundation, a charity dedicated to restoring sight for patients facing the most complex vision challenges. With patients from more than 100 countries and across the United States traveling to the Gulani Vision Institute and the Eye Surgery Spa, Jacksonville is increasingly recognized as a global destination for advanced eye care.

ALS patient’s vision restored

One of the evening’s most moving moments came from a Jacksonville ALS patient who regained 20/20 vision through Dr. Arun C. Gulani’s next-generation laser innovations, a surgery performed entirely at no cost through the Gulani Vision Global Foundation.

This transformation underscored the foundation’s mission to deliver sight-saving solutions to patients with no other options.

Restoring sight around the world

The gala featured patients who traveled internationally to share their life-changing experiences, including:

• A formerly blind patient from Honduras who can now see again

• Multiple global patients who received complex, no-cost corrective surgeries

• A newly selected recipient awarded a $25,000 charitable surgery

These stories reflect the foundation’s unwavering commitment to expanding access to advanced eye care for underserved patients worldwide.

During the gala, world-renowned eye surgeon Gulani unveiled upcoming initiatives designed to transform global eye care while solidifying Jacksonville as an epicenter of innovation. Highlights include:

• AI platforms capturing Gulani’s 30-plus years of surgical expertise for future training and predictive surgical algorithms

• 3D visualization and 4D surgical technologies that redefine modern eye surgery

• Expanded research collaborations with top U.S. and international universities

• Advanced laser-based solutions for corneal blindness that minimize the need for invasive corneal transplants
