Go for two: Sharks defeat Crusaders with late magic

Posted

It has been a crazy week for the Ponte Vedra Sharks football team, but it was capped in one of the more memorable finishes in program history, as the Sharks scored on a two-point conversion to hand Bishop Kenny its first loss of the season, 32-31 Oct. 7.

It was a close game throughout, but the sharks always seemed to be  the team doing the chasing.

However, for the second time this week the Sharks' offense orchestrated an impressive drive late. They did the same thing against Flagler Palm Coast to tie the game late, but ended up losing on a field goal as time expired.

The difference this time around is that instead of  attempting the extra point and forcing overtime, head coach Steve Price made the call to go for the two-point conversion and the victory.

His decision played out to perfection as Ben Burk hit Wyatt Rogers who plowed his way into the endzone for the game-winning score.

It was an  impressive win for the Sharks, as it came against a  likely playoff contender in the Crusaders, who had been undefeated to that point heading into the game.

Next up for the Sharks is a road game against Ocala Trinity Catholic at 7 p.m. Oct. 14.
