The Jacksonville Symphony will hold its inaugural Jazz Concert on June 4. Curated by the symphony’s principal tubist James Jenkins and featuring the newly formed Jacksonville Jazz Collective, this one-of-a-kind program spotlights hits from big bands to iconic composers and features very limited, general admission seating as Jacoby Symphony Hall is transformed into an intimate jazz club.

“This special concert will deliver the wide variety of colors, sounds and styles that characterize the sheer magnitude of jazz as a genre,” said Jenkins. “We’re all very excited to present the opportunity for folks to experience this wonderful art form in a space and venue designed specifically for acoustic music.”

The featured musicians for this performance are members of the Jacksonville Jazz Collective, a newly formed group of local talent curated by Jenkins.

“As one of music’s most expressive and inventive genres, jazz has contributed to and been a reflection of American culture for decades,” said Steven Libman, president and CEO. “We are delighted to bring jazz to the Jacksonville Symphony and cannot wait for audiences to discover even more of what Jacksonville’s musical culture has to offer.”

The June 4 performance is also an exclusive sneak peek at the 2023-24 Season’s Jazz Series, the first of its kind for the symphony. The new series will feature three performances: a big band concert, a trio performance and a grand finale featuring acclaimed trumpeter Terence Blanchard.
