The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp returned to VyStar Ballpark on May 5-10 where they faced the Charlotte Knights. The Jumbo Shrimp split their six-game series with the Knights 3-3.
Ryan Gusto was the starting pitcher for the Jumbo Shrimp on Saturday, May 9. Gusto allowed five earned runs, three walks and six strikeouts.
Saturday’s game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when Agustin Ramirez hit a double and then scored courtesy of a missed groundball by the Knights. The Jumbo Shrimp took a 1-0 lead heading into the fifth inning.
Jacksonville added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Jesus Bastidas hit a double with the bases loaded which enabled Maximo Acosta, Andrew Pintar and Ethan O’Donnell to all score. This pushed the score to 4-0. Bastidas and Deyvison De Los Santos also scored in the fifth inning giving the Jumbo Shrimp a comfortable 6-0 lead heading into the sixth.
However, Charlotte was quick to respond, scoring five runs of their own at the top of the sixth inning.
With a 6-5 lead, the Jumbo Shrimp put Jack Ralston in to pitch for the rest of the game. They were able to hang on to their one run lead to win the game.
In addition to all the baseball action, the Jumbo Shrimp also partnered with Florida Blue for a Mother’s Day weekend diaper drive to help benefit the Community Health Outreach.
Fans brought diapers in all sizes to the stadium on May 8-10 and helped the Jumbo Shrimp donate 2,654 diapers.
The Jumbo Shrimp will return to VyStar Ballpark May 19-24 to take on the Norfolk Tides.
