K9s United to host second annual 5K race and fun run

K9s United will host its second annual 5K race and 1 Mile Fun Run in Nocatee April 22.

The nonprofit is dedicated to honoring and supporting the K9s of law enforcement agencies. The 5K race will be chip-timed, with awards for top runners in each category. The untimed fun run is open to runners and walkers of all levels. Those who are unable to attend but still wish to be a part of the cause can participate in the event’s Virtual 5K/Walk between registration and May 21, which earns a t-shirt and medal.

Family-friendly post-race activities will also be offered, including a rock climbing wall, face painting, a Home Depot kids’ building project and a meet and greet with police K9s. Approximately 20 K9 teams are expected and many will hold demonstrations. In addition, police vehicles including a St. Johns County Police helicopter and a Duval County Swat Bear Cat armored vehicle will be on site for tours.

Veterans United will serve adult beverages and Pieology will provide pizza. K9s United will unveil a tribute poster to commemorate those who have lost their lives in the line of duty since the organization was founded.
