Landrum Middle School Cheer and S.A.F.E. Pet Rescue held its second annual Pom-poms 4 Paws Bake Sale at Pet Supermarket in Ponte Vedra Beach on Jan. 25.

The event was a huge success, raising over $600 in sales and donations, as well as assisting in three pet adoptions, several potential fosters and raising community awareness of S.A.F.E. Pet Rescue’s mission. Proceeds donated to S.A.F.E. Pet Rescue will predominantly be used for medical and operational purposes.

Every year, Landrum Middle School Cheerleading Coach Taylor Beamer selects a specific service volunteer effort to work with to help contribute to society. This year, S.A.F.E. (Saving Animals From Euthanasia) Pet Rescue and the LMS Cheer team came together to raise money and awareness. The cheerleaders helped share valuable information about the dogs to educate families who were interested in adopting or fostering a pet. The team took many pictures with the rescues, the community and previously adopted pets to help spread the word. Students and volunteers walked the dogs, cleaned water bowls and gave plenty of treats and love to the animals.

S.A.F.E. Pet Rescue was founded by Robin Kanter in September 2008. It is based in St. Augustine.

Kanter created the foundation to help adoptable dogs and cats find “forever” homes through foster homes, shelters and volunteers. She believed too many animals were having their lives taken from them by euthanization, and she wanted to help change this. Dedicated long-time volunteer and manager Sharon Keach, regularly transports the animals to local adoption events and supervises volunteers.
