The King’s Chair Barber Club in St. Augustine recently visited St. Francis House homeless shelter for a community charity event entitled "Haircuts for the Homeless," at which the barbers shop ultimately gave haircuts to 50 St. Francis House clients.
“Sometimes all it takes is a fresh new look to change a person’s outlook on themselves," said Candice Bowman, St. Francis House marketing director, “and you can tell this happened with every guest that got out of their chairs with a stylish new cut. They all looked so good and were beaming with pride.”
St. Francis House is St. Johns County's housing crisis center providing the local homeless population with temporary housing and programs to help them find their way back to independence. Programs focus on helping clients establish a sustainable income and find permanent housing; getting clients ready to move forward can start with a simple haircut.
"We are so thankful to have the Kings Chair donate their time," said Karen Hensel, St. Francis House assistant director. "This service helps give the confidence to our clients that they need to move forward. We couldn't be happier with the event. We hope to continue the relationship with the Kings Chair and inspire other future local partners within the community."
