Local baseball teams have mixed week

It was another big week for high school varsity baseball. The Nease Panthers beat the Yulee Hornets 5-3 on Wednesday, March 25. This win ended a three-game losing streak for the Panthers.

Caeden Dye pitched 5.1 innings for Nease and only gave up three earned runs off eight hits. Jack Hoover also had a strong game for the Panthers, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two RBI and one run. The Panthers also got a strong performance from John Gerosa who got on base twice, had one stolen base and one run.

On Thursday, March 26, the Panthers fell to the Bartram Trail Bears 11-5. Despite the loss, Braylon Morgan had a big night going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base and one run. The Panthers will be looking for redemption as they head into some big matchups with the Bishop Kenny Crusaders, the Bolles Bulldogs and University Christian.

The Beachside Barracudas lost 6-0 to the Tocoi Creek Toros on Thursday, March 26. This ended a four-game streak of wins at home for Beachside.

Beachside pitcher Aidan Kuglar struck out seven batters over four innings and only gave up one earned run. Derek Ochoa went 2-for-3 with one double for the Barracudas.

On Friday, March 27, the Barracudas were able to redeem themselves with a 5-4 victory over the Toros. Brady Anderson struck out eight batters over six innings for the Barracudas, giving up one earned run off three hits. Beachside’s Eli Mavarez had his first stolen base of the season.

The Barracudas will look to continue their winning streak with upcoming matchups against the Providence School Stallions, the Fleming Island Golden Eagles and the Ed White Commanders.

On Friday, March 27, the Ponte Vedra Sharks won their game against the Orange Park Raiders, 9-4. Ponte Vedra is having a solid season and will be facing off against Providence on Thursday, April 2.
