High school basketball is in full swing across St. Johns County.
The Ponte Vedra Sharks closed out 2025 with a 63-49 victory over the Legacy Charter Eagles on Dec. 30. Maddox Palmer totaled 19 points to go along with a game high 11 rebounds and six assists, but he also had plenty of help from his teammates. Ryan Speace shot 78% from the field and racked up 20 points and six assists. Chase Cowan was also a difference maker for the Sharks after missing most of the first half of the season due to injury. He had a total of eight points. The Sharks had 20 total assists in the game and are now 8-5 on the season. Ponte Vedra will return to action on Jan. 8 at home against the Columbia Tigers.
The Beachside Barracudas defeated the Duval Charter Panthers 66-56 on Jan. 3. This win marked six straight in a row for Beachside. Maddox Hunstad shot 65% from the field and had 24 points and five steals. This made six games in a row where Hunstad scored at least 15 points. Austin Bacus had seven points, five assists and five steals for the Barracudas, and he is now averaging 2.2 steals per game.
The Nease Panthers defeated the Mandarin Mustangs 80-72 on Jan. 5. This victory puts the Panthers winning streak at seven making them 13-2 on the season. Nease will be on the road Jan. 8 to take on the Wolfson Wolfpack.
The Creekside Knights defeated North Florida Educational Institute 57-49 on Jan. 3.
