Family Story Time

When: 1 p.m. Mondays; 10:15 and 11:15 a.m. Thursdays; 10:15 a.m. Saturday, July 13.

Join Ms. Robyn, Ms. Jane and Ms. Joan for “Finding Adventure at Your Library!” This is an interactive story time for children of all ages. Enjoy books, stories music and more! All of the sessions will be the same.

Baby Story Time

When: 10:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays

This gentle lapsit program features action rhymes, songs and stories presented in a circle time format in the children’s library. For babies up to 12 months; siblings welcome. All of the sessions will be the same.

Outdoor Games and Camping

When: 3-4 p.m. July 2

Have fun inside and outside with all sorts of yard games for the whole family, including:

· Story time in the dark

· Corn hole

· Water balloons

· Giant Jenga

· Scavenger hunt

Adult Coloring Club

When: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 9; and 1-2:30 p.m. July 23

Supplies will be provided. Feel free to bring a snack.

The Lost Forest: What’s Beneath the Waves?

When: 3-4 p.m. July 9

Join Jennifer Swanson, author of “The Lost Forest: An Unexpected Discovery beneath the Waves.” After local fishers noticed a large swarm of fish in an unlikely area in the Gulf of Mexico, a team of divers found the remains of a forest deep beneath the waves. The ancient trees had been undisturbed for more than 50,000 years before finally being uncovered by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. An acclaimed science writer, Swanson brings readers along with a group of scientists as they work to explore and map the site, collect samples of cypress wood and learn about the marine creatures that live here ― namely, shipworms. When: 5:30 to 7 p.m. July 10

Start your summer off with a bang! Ready to compete? Do you know your stuff? Join in for fun, food and a lot of laughs.

When: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 11.

Learn about Marineland: The World’s First Oceanarium

When: 4-5 p.m. July 11

Participants will travel back in time to 1938 for the grand opening of Marine Studios, the world’s first oceanarium and underwater film studio. From Florida tourism to literary greats to architectural styles to marine science — so many firsts in history happened at Marineland, and it’s still happening today! Learn all about the past, present and future of this famous marine science facility from Marineland’s historian, Terran McGinnis. This informative talk is best suited for teens and adults.

Adventures in Technology for Adults

When: 11 to 11:30 a.m. July 12

Explore helpful tech tips each month with the adult services librarian. Each month will feature a different topic covered over a 30-minute talk. Some sessions will include interactive instructions to use apps and computer databases, so participants are encouraged to bring their personal devices and smartphones. In July, learn how you can take steps to secure your accounts, from social media to smartphones, for the benefit of your loved ones. RSVP at 904-827-6950. 

Movie Matinee – “Wish” (Disney)

When: 2 to 3:30 p.m. July 13

Enjoy the movie in the cool air conditioning. The movie is “Wish” by Disney (Rated PG). Bring a blanket or pillow to sit on, hunker down and enjoy the show. Feel free to bring personal snacks and drinks (in containers that can be sealed). Open to all ages.

Sit & Get Fit

When: 11 a.m. to noon July 16

Looking for fitness and wellness tips to incorporate into your daily routine? Learn how to stay healthy and strong with minimal equipment and light weights, even from the comfort of our own homes. Karen Cataldo, a JCA fitness team director, will speak to the benefits these practices provide when you incorporate them into your regular routine. Just Add Rhythm

When: 3-4 p.m. July 16

Go on a sonic adventure and experience rhythm in a whole new way! The program will focus on the sounds of different drums, shakers and Boomwhackers. Children will practice taking turns, sharing and listening skills. This is a hands-on experience for kids ages 5-17.

Chef Warren: Thrill of the Grill

When: 6-7 p.m. July 16

Join Chef Warren as he shares all the tips and hints you’ll need to elevate your grilling. Whether it’s steaks, chicken, veggies or dessert, you will learn the secrets of the great grilling masters. Chef Warren will explain which cuts of beef and chicken, types of fish, and which veggies are best for grilling. He will also share which cooking techniques will guarantee a delicious entrée while addressing questions such as: Will marinating make a tough cut of meat tender? What’s the difference between grilling and barbecuing? Which is better, a gas or charcoal grill? Does it matter which charcoal I use? When should I baste my ribs or chicken with sauce? Can I grill fruit and how? And much more! Chef Warren will end his presentation with a cooking demonstration, preparing a healthy grilled marinated swordfish entrée that anyone can replicate in their own home in less than 10 minutes. Teen Maker Stations

When: 3-4 p.m. July 17 and 24

Some of the stations will include:

· Circuits

· LEGO robotics

· Candle making

· Card making

· Button making

· Fuser beads

There will also be snacks and drinks for all.

Friday Flicks: “The Goonies”

When: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 19

“The Goonies” will be the show. A group of teenagers finds a map leading to a hidden treasure. They must overcome booby traps, natural obstructions and a gang of desperate thieves in their race for the loot. All ages are welcome.

Kid Crafters: Fuser Beads

When: 2 to 2:45 p.m. July 20

Ever heard of Fuser Beads? Make a coaster in any design you want using beads. Participants will “fuse” them together using an iron (adult supervised). Lots of fun and you get to be as creative as you want! This program is for children in grades K-5.

LEGO Club Block Party

When: 3 to 3:45 p.m. July 20

Have fun building with traditional LEGOs. Build anything you want or take on an assigned challenge.

Adventures with the Jacksonville Zoo

When: 3-4 p.m. July 23

Join the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens as they present a great adventure. Learn about animals and their environments.

Crafters Corner for Adults

When: 1-3 p.m. July 25

Engage in hands-on crafting sessions offering a perfect opportunity to unwind and socialize. Visit the adult section of the library to view the upcoming month’s sample. RSVP to 904-827-6950 or sjcpls.org. Supplies and space are limited.

Continuum of Care Lunch & Learn

When: 10:30 a.m. to noon July 30

This event is designed to answer common questions surrounding the senior continuum of care. An estate law attorney will talk about why planning for the future with the right documents is so important. A home care professional will speak about how home care can help seniors age in place. A senior placement specialist will talk about the tough transition from your home to a facility and the challenges. And a hospice professional will dispel the myths associated with hospice and speak about the purpose of hospice and how it helps families. A complimentary lunch will be served after the event. Participants can mingle with the speakers and ask questions during this time.
