The “Messiah Ballet” will be performed by professional dancers, musicians, Grace Conservatory of Dance and The St. Augustine Community Chorus at 6 p.m. Nov. 22 in the Celebration Arena, 9555 R G Skinner Parkway, Jacksonville.

Grace Conservatory co-founder Vaughan Robison said more than 200 dancers and musicians work together every year to perform Handel’s “Messiah.”

“Through our annual production of Handel’s ‘Messiah,’ we aim to bring together music, ballet and philanthropy for the betterment of Northeast Florida,” said Robison.

Handel’s “Messiah,” which tells the story of Jesus Christ, has a long history of helping others in need. While the ballet was originally choreographed by Kristen Jameson and the staff at Grace Conservatory of Dance, Handel’s “Messiah” was first performed in 1742 in Dublin, Ireland. The first performance raised money for Mercer’s hospital, the charitable infirmary and prisoner’s debt relief. Over the years, performances of Handel’s “Messiah” have raised millions to support prisoners, orphans and widows. Today, the “Messiah Ballet’s” production supports multiple 501(c)(3) arts and social services organizations including Alpha-Omega Miracle Home and the Emmanuel Project.

“We are proud to follow Handel’s example of philanthropy using his composition in its entirety,” Robison said. Improving the arts is key and the ballet seeks to help dance, choral music and orchestral music thrive.

Attendees will experience this classical ballet and influential oratorio with a professional orchestra and full choir while supporting those in need and the arts.
