Sawgrass Marriott names Moore GM of Cabana Beach Club
The Sawgrass Marriott Resort & Spa has named Executive Sous Chef Marya Moore as the new general manager of the resort’s Cabana Beach Club.
In her new role, Moore will build on her extensive culinary and events experience, overseeing three restaurants, watersports concessions and Cabana Beach Club memberships.
“Chef Moore is a seasoned leader and she was the ideal choice to manage the team and operations at our beautiful Cabana Beach Club,” said Todd Hickey, general manager for the Sawgrass Marriott Resort & Spa. “Her talents and expertise are sure to prove invaluable to not only the Cabana Beach Club, but the resort as a whole, as she has already shown us in her previous role.”
A graduate of Johnson and Wales University, Moore began her career at the Newton Marriott Boston, then held positions at Marriott hotels in Burlington and Cambridge, Massachusetts before relocating to the JW Marriott Grande Lakes in Orlando.
Beaches Rotaract inducts new members
The Beaches Rotaract Club recently inducted four new members. President Matthew Montoya and Vice President Charlie Flynn welcomed new members Allen Wells, Bryan Logue, Victoria Troupe and Sarah Rose Stewart to Rotaract, a Rotary-sponsored service organization for young adults between the ages of 18 and 30. The Beaches Rotaract Club is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra Beach.
Sisler Johnston wins Aurora Awards for The Palms at Ponte Vedra
Sisler Johnston Interior Design received two Aurora Awards – including the Grand Award – from the Florida Home Builders Association for the firm’s work at The Palms at Ponte Vedra assisted living and memory care community. The builder, Auld &White, and the architect, Architectural Concepts, also were recognized.
The awards were presented during the 2016 Southeast Building Conference in Orlando. The Palms at Ponte Vedra was entered in the Best Seniors Housing Community – Assisted Living/Special Needs category.

Salmons joins Advanced Disposal
Wesley A. Salmons has joined Ponte Vedra-based Advanced Disposal as corporate director of safety and compliance.
A certified director of safety, Salmons has more than 15 years of leadership, safety and risk management experience with a variety of transportation companies as well as the solid waste sector. He joins Advanced Disposal from Team Drive-Away, where he served as director of safety and recruiting. He is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree candidate in occupational safety and health management from Columbia Southern University. He holds an associate’s degree in IT, and has received specialized transportation training as well as extensive ground safety training during his 10 years in the U.S. Air Force.
Berkshire Hathaway’s Vining named a ‘Woman of Influence’
Anita Vining has been named to Jacksonville Business Journal’s 2016 “Women of Influence” recognizing women for their accomplishments in business and community service.
The award was presented at a luncheon held Aug. 24 at the Renaissance World Golf Village Resort in St. Augustine.
A Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Florida Network Realty, Vining was a 2015 Top Producer for the company, with more than $38 million in closed sales. She serves on the board of directors for the Jacksonville Public Education Fund and on Duval County Public Schools Superintendent Nikolai Vitti’s special task force committee to make Duval County schools stronger.
Vining is a board member of the San Marco Merchants Association, serving as president the past two years. She supports Dreams Come True, donating a percentage of each of her closings to the nonprofit organization, the Cathedral Arts Project, Wolfson Children’s Hospital and St. Vincent’s Medical Center.
McLaughlin, Tamayo elected officers of Betty Griffin House board
Florida Coastal School of Law Professor Julia McLaughlin has been elected chair of the Betty Griffin House Board of Directors.
McLaughlin has served since 2001 as a member on the board of the nonprofit agency, which provides shelter and support for victims of domestic and sexual abuse in St. Johns County.
Severino (Sev) Tamayo was elected to serve as vice chair of the 15-member board. A two-year member of the board, Tamayo is an account manager with Jeff Evans State Farm in Palm Coast.
“We’re excited to have Julia and Sev accept leadership positions as our nonprofit agency is in the process of launching several new initiatives over the next 12 months,” Betty Griffin House Executive Director Joyce Mahr said.
Betty Griffin House currently houses up to 54 women and their children and offers free services and programs including confidential counseling, a 24-hour crisis hotline, a rape crisis unit in Flagler Hospital and legal assistance to domestic violence and sexual assault victims and families throughout the community.
Slate wins Salesperson of the Year Award
EXIT Real Estate Gallery’s Cole Slate was recently awarded the Florida Home Builders Association Sales and Marketing Council 2016 Associate Salesperson of the Year.
The Florida Home Builder’s Association Sales and Marketing Council’s Associate Salesperson of the Year is presented to a member who demonstrates excellence in the areas of new construction development, new build production, builder’s association involvement and overall community impact.
Gaines joins FirstAtlantic Bank
Julie Gaines has joined FirstAtlantic Bank as vice president, senior commercial relationship manager. Her responsibilities include developing new customer relationships in the bank’s targeted markets of businesses and professionals.
Gaines brings 25 years of financial services experience to her new position. She was most recently with LSQ Funding Group.
