Manders 22 is a new restaurant located in St. Johns County that was started by father-son duo Jeff and Jake Manders.
Manders 22 had a soft opening on Aug. 14 and officially opened its doors to the public on Aug. 22.
Jeff Manders worked in corporate America for 40 years and retired in 2022. He then got his real estate license, and last summer his son Jake had an idea to start a business.
The concept for Manders 22 was born last August, and a year later Jeff and Jake Manders were able to bring it to life.
“I had a business plan for a sub shop that I created about 35 years ago, and I never did anything with it. So, when he came to me, I thought: ‘You know what? It makes sense,’” said Jeff Manders.
Customers only have to look as far as the name of the restaurant to see how close Jeff and Jake are. Jeff Manders used to coach Jake in sports when he was younger and he always wore the number 22.
The restaurant’s menu has a good variety and there is something for everyone.
“We designed the menu to appeal to the masses,” said the elder Manders. “If you want something cold you can get a sub; if you are looking for something hot then you can look at all our burgers.”
Manders 22 currently has four burgers on their menu, including a veggie burger, and they will be adding a fifth one very soon. The Sunset Heat 22 burger will be the traditional burger with a special sunset heat sauce, created by Manders 22, and jalapenos and pepper jack cheese. Their burgers come in three sizes, single, double and triple. Chili, char-grilled chicken spiedies and five different salads also help to make up the menu.
Manders 22 also does catering. They offer both half trays and full trays of lasagna with 24-hour advanced notice. In honor of football season, they also have a Gridiron Special, which comes with 12 orders of fries and 12 burgers.
The restaurant’s current hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. However, starting on Saturday, Oct. 4, Manders 22 will be opening at 7:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays and offering a limited breakfast menu. The breakfast menu will include breakfast burritos, breakfast quesadillas, etc. and will be served until 11:30 a.m. Breakfast will only be available on the weekends, and Manders 22 will be closed on Mondays starting Oct. 6.
