MOCA Jacksonville, a cultural institute of the University of North Florida, announces a new season of programming for teens. Applications are now open for MOCA’s Emerging Artist Program and Teen Art Council. Through these programs, teens can gain a deeper understanding of art practices, earn volunteer hours and learn skills that will help prepare them for their next steps.
Emerging Artist Program
The Emerging Artist Program is a studio art course for teens that focuses on painting and takes place during fall and spring semesters. Each semester consists of eight in-person classes, organized around four individual projects and several smaller supporting assignments.
The program also includes online engagement using Canvas, a web-based learning system for online teaching. Each semester features one clothes figure workshop, critiques from visiting professionals and presentations with lectures introducing numerous techniques and concepts.
This program is designed to be similar to a college studio art course, streamlined for teens. All experience levels are encouraged to apply. Students enrolled in previous semesters are welcome to reapply and continue their artistic growth.
This course includes eight classes, meeting on the first and third Saturdays of each month from noon to 3 p.m. Orientation will take place on Sept. 4 and classes begin Sept. 7.

Teen Art Council
MOCA Jacksonville’s Teen Art Council is a volunteer group that empowers local high school students by creating programming by and for teens.
Teen Art Council members meet twice per month to learn about the museum, engage with different departments, develop mission-driven projects and plan an annual event for local teens.
As Teen Art Council members create and implement programs, they open doors to new audiences. Members also earn volunteer hours for their participation that count toward college and scholarship requirements.
In celebration of MOCA’s 100th anniversary, graduating senior members of the Teen Art Council 2024-25 will be eligible to apply for the Vystar MOCA Centennial Scholarship, in partnership with Florida Prepaid College Foundation, to study for a Bachelor of Arts in the department of art, art history and design at the University of North Florida, commencing fall 2025.
