New York Times bestselling author Amor Towles will make an appearance at The BookMark in Neptune Beach Thursday, March 9 at 7 p.m. During his appearance, Towles will discuss and sign copies of his new novel, “A Gentleman in Moscow,” his first venture after “Rules of Civility.”

In the new novel, readers follow the life and times of Count Alexander Rostov, a poet who is sentenced to house arrest in Moscow’s Metropol Hotel by a Bolshevik tribunal for writing a poem they believe encouraged revolt. Nonetheless, the count lives life to the fullest, discovering the depths of his own humanity in the process.

Inside the Metropol, he slowly adjusts to the attic room where he is banished after living in a posh third-floor suite, and tries to maintain a semblance of normalcy. He explores the hotel, bonds with the staff and eventually forms a meaningful relationship with Nina, a spirited young girl. In a story spanning 40 years, Towles weaves a tale with distant regard to politics felt outside of the hotel while focusing on the slow passage of time through the eyes of the count and his friends.

The BookMark is located at 220 First Street in Neptune Beach.
