Ocean Palms students spend ‘Scientist Saturday’ at Marine Science Education Center

Several of Ocean Palms Elementary’s fourth-grade students had the opportunity to spend a morning at the Marine Science Education Center in Mayport on April 21 to celebrate “Scientist Saturday.” Students used microscopes to inspect sand, identifying the various minerals that can be found in sand from local beaches, and they also had the chance to identify living specimens in the wet lab tanks, hold starfish and hermit crabs and examine whalebones and fossilized sharks’ teeth.
