Pura Vida Volunteer Cat Services, a nonprofit that began in 2024, recently got the opportunity to partner with PetSmart in Jacksonville Beach to host cat and kitten adoptions.
Teresa O’Brien, founder of Pura Vida Volunteer Cat Services, said 18 cats have been adopted in the first month. Their second adoption day and donation drive will be on Saturday, May 16, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All of the adoptable kittens are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and defleaed.
The nonprofit’s goal is to assist and control the growing cat population in Jacksonville by trapping, neutering and returning cats, as well as preventing people from giving away unfixed and unvetted cats. O’Brien said there are many homeless cats in the city that need help.
In addition to helping homeless cats find loving families, O’Brien is helping people re-home cats when they can no longer care for them.
July 20-26 is PetSmart’s National Adoption week and to celebrate, Pura Vida Volunteer Cat Services will host adoptions all week. Donations are appreciated and accepted on adoption days. Kitten food, litter, toys and puppy pads are especially needed.
This is a wonderful opportunity to welcome a new cat into your family, or help support those who are looking for their forever homes. O’Brien said she will be present at the adoption day on May 16 and July 26 and is happy to answer any questions.
