Peter Kuchar honored at Ronald McDonald House Charity Classic

The Ronald McDonald House Charity Classic was held on Oct. 6 at the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club. This year’s tournament honored the life of Peter Kuchar, who hosted the tournament for more than a decade.

Peter and his wife Meg moved to Ponte Vedra in 2001 and wasted no time getting involved with the Ronald McDonald House.

“Being able to give back to those who are not so blessed was important to us,” said Meg Kuchar.

Meg Kuchar was a committee member and served two terms on the board of the Ronald McDonald House before her husband became chairman of the board.

Peter Kuchar unexpectedly passed away in February of this year, and his wife and their son Matt hosted the tournament in his honor.

Matt Kuchar won The PLAYERS Championship in 2012, which is a memory that his mother says she will never forget.

“Our neighbors had decorated the front gates of our neighborhood, and there was champagne in front of our door,” she said.

Matt Kuchar signed with Georgia Tech right out of high school and won the U.S. Amateur in 1997. He was then paired with Tiger Woods at Augusta National in 1998 for the Masters Tournament.

Matt Kuchar was the honorary chair of this year’s tournament in remembrance of his dad, whose life was celebrated in a big way. Friends, family and guests at the tournament submitted “Peter Kucharisms,” which were funny jokes and quotes Peter Kuchar used to say, as another way to honor him.

“We were honored and humbled that they did that. It was very sweet and very moving,” said Meg Kuchar.

This year, the tournament raised a record high $225,000 in net proceeds for the Ronald McDonald House.
